One of my favorite entrepreneurs I have never met is this guy Randy Holt.
Trades guy.
No college education.
No family money.

The Beginning
In 1979, he started a well-drilling company.
Grows it over 20 years, sells to private equity.
Stays with the buyer for 3 years, likely the same amount of time as his non-compete.
The Comeback
Then leaves and immediately starts another well-drilling company.
Now they have 125+ employees drilling up and down the West Coast.
Conclusion
Randy’s story is an awesome real-world example of what is possible when you start with nothing but determination and the drive to build something valuable.
